Pilot Kapitan Dmitriy Fedorovich Amosov
78 IAP-SF, Vaenga, Soviet Russia. December 1941
Dmitriy Amosov was born in 1915 and joined the Red Army in 1939. In June 1941 Amosov joined 72 SmAP-SF, flying Polikarpov I-153s, operating in the defence of Murmansk. During this time Amosov claimed a total of 2 kills and 4 shared.
In October 1941 he was posted to 78 IAP-SF, equipped with Hurricanes. Whilst in this posting he claimed an additional 2 kills. In March 1942, he was posted back to his old unit (72 SmAP-SF), now also equiped with Hurricanes , when he claimed at further 2 kills. After being shot down and injured he returned to flying duties and claimed an additional 2 kills during 1943 and 1944.
On the 10th May 1944, near Vardo, Finland he was shot down and killed after flying over 300 missions
